Welcome to Heal!

We're excited you joined our practice! Here's everything you need to know to get started.


Before Your First Visit

1. Submit a New Client Form

If you have not done so already (or if any information has changed), please fill out and submit a New Client Form.

2. Gather Medical Records

If you have medical records from your previous vet, please email them to us. There's a spot on our new client form to authorize us to get medical records on your behalf. If you need any assistance with this, just ask!

3. Schedule Your Appointment

A member of our Front Desk team will reach out to help you schedule your first exam. Our appointment times are long enough to ensure thorough and compassionate care, even for nervous or fearful pets that need extra time to settle. Appointments average 40 minutes in length but can be customized based on your pet's needs.

Free Parking

  • Free parking is available behind our building in a private lot. Our back entrance is right off the parking lot for your convenience. Got an electric car? Charge it while you're here!

Call When You Arrive

  • Wait in your car and call 617-932-5166 to let us know you've arrived. We will coordinate your entry into the building to manage foot and paw traffic. If you do not have a car to wait in, let us know!

No Waiting Room, No Cold Exam Tables

  • There is no waiting room at Heal; as soon as you enter the building, we will bring you into a comfortable exam room. Our exam rooms are furnished with chairs or couches instead of metal exam tables. Heal's medical staff will sit on the floor or couch with your pet during your visit.

  • At the end of your appointment, your technician will take payment in the exam room - no need to wait in line to settle up.

Appointment Summaries & Follow-Ups

  • We will email you a detailed, personalized summary after most appointments.

  • We follow up with you via email or phone after any treatments, sick visits, or surgeries to make sure your pet is doing well and you don't have any concerns or questions.

Urgent & Emergency Care

Urgent and Emergency Care

Same-Day and Next-Day Appointments 

  • If your pet has an urgent need, please call us. We will do our best to help you as soon as possible. Same-Day appointments are limited and occasionally book up, but we often have the ability to address very urgent needs the same (or next) day. 

Urgent Phone Triage

  • Not sure if you're experiencing an emergency? Call us first.

  • Depending on the situation we may 1) schedule an urgent appointment 2)  ask you to come in to be triaged or 3) advise you to go directly to an urgent care or emergency hospital.

After Hours Care via VEG

  • If you call us after hours, you will have the option of being transferred immediately to our partner, Veterinary Emergency Group. They have multiple locations, the closest one located five minutes from Heal in Cambridge. See VEG Cambridge.

Prescriptions and Pharmacy

In-House Pharmacy

  • Take Home or Pick Up

    • Most medications can be prepared for you at Heal, and are ready by the end of your appointment. Refills are available within 24 hours, but are often ready the day you request them. We have a contactless system for easy pick up. 

  • Shipped to Your Door

    • We can ship most medications directly to your door if you're unable to pick up in person. (USPS shipping charges apply.)

Online Pharmacy
  • We have our own online pharmacy with competitive pricing. We seamlessly approve online prescription requests without the need to upload paper prescriptions online. Your patronage supports Heal Vet directly instead of corporate pharmacies like Chewy.​

Compounded Medications
  • If your pet requires a special medication, or prefers it made into chewy treats, flavored liquids, or other custom formulations, there are several compounding pharmacies we work with that can help.

Prescription Diets
  • We carry the most commonly used prescription diets from Purina and Hills Science Diet. If we don't have what your pet needs, we make it easy to order online.​


Third Party Pharmacies
  • We are happy to send your pet's prescriptions to a local pharmacy when needed.

  • If you wish to use a third party online pharmacy (like Chewy or 800-PetMeds), we can provide you with a copy of your prescription for you to upload to their website.

  • We are not able to work directly with third party pharmacies to approve prescriptions via phone or email, but we will provide you with a prescription for you (hard copy or PDF) to use anywhere you like.

Heal Vet Basics

Low-Stress Patient Care

  • Every staff member is specially trained in low-stress handling techniques, and we work hard to personalize care for each and every patient. We intentionally designed the building to help create happier vet visits. We room every patient immediately (no waiting in a lobby!), we have a cat-only exam room, and lots of comfortable furniture for you -- and your pet -- to sit on. No metal exam tables here!

A Highly Trained, Cohesive Medical Team 

  • We are a six doctor practice with both full and part-time vets.

  • Our doctors practice collaboratively; you are welcome to see multiple doctors for your pet's care to maximize appointment availability.

  • If you find a vet you really get along with, we can preferentially schedule you with them. Just ask! Your preferred vet may not always match your availability, especially if you need something urgently. Willingness to see one of our other providers (when needed) is highly recommended. 

Wide-Ranging Services

  • We offer a wide range of services, including wellness care, vaccines, diagnostics, surgery, dental work, and laser therapy. We also work with a number of board certified specialty providers and referral hospitals, such as internal medicine specialists and cardiologists.

We strive to be a highly communicative and responsive partner in your pet's care. We respond to emails quickly, and when you call us, a real person answers the phone. We dislike phone trees as much as you do!
